Meet the Designer
Back in 1992, I found myself rockin’ out in 3 bands and lovin’ it! There was one crazy band that tested my guitar playing skills. The name of that band was called Loki. We were a progressive rock band performing live in quadraphonic! The music was very dynamic and challenging with odd time signatures and a huge mix of modal scales sometimes combined all in one song.
When I auditioned for the band I was blown away and I wanted in! I wasn’t performing at the level I needed to so I took some guitar lessons from an old friend named Stan Munslow who studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Stan taught me about the classical modes – Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian. If it sounds Greek that’s because it is! I did mention classical didn’t I?
I was hooked on modes but I needed a way to better visualize the scales so I created a paper version of the slide rule. I started seeing patterns I never knew existed. It was like the whole universe was revealing it’s unfoldings of creation through the sounds and patterns of musical scales.
This realization made me want to shout it out to the world – “LOOK WHAT I FOUND!” and with that, I decided to make the Scale Seeker.
Ok, I know it sounds fantastical but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

This tool functions like a slide ruler. Place a scale card into the sleeve and align and view the information through the Scale Seeker sleeve window. Instructions are listed on the back.
Instructions
Slide the scale card into the Scale Seeker™ sleeve. Align the numbered “tonic note” with the desired key (letter) and start playing. It’s very simple to use.
The “tonic note” refers to the 1st note of the desired scale key. Think of it as a starting point labeled on each scale card(i.e. The Minor Pentatonic scale). The sleeve has a listing of key letters below the viewing window; F, F#\Gb, G, G#\Ab and so on. Aligning the tonic note (listed as the # “1”) with the desired key (i.e. A) will allow you to view the scale (Minor Pentatonic) across an entire 12 fret range.
